Walking Your Motorcycle – 5 Tips

2021-01-06T05:13:46+00:00Update: 2021-01-06 2021-01-06T05:13:46+00:00 by Tom - No Comments

Walking Your Motorcycle Tips

If you use a motorcycle for daily commuting then you also walk your motorcycle for parking and getting in and out of your garage every day. It seems normal but it takes a lot of effort to do that, especially if you own a heavy Harley cruiser motorcycle. But, that’s not all motorcyclists do. Some riders find pushing the bike with their feet quite easy to do while sitting on it. But, it is only possible if you have a normal bike.

It is not that easy to do on a tall, heavy cruiser bike. Moreover, if you are on a sloped surface, then trying to back up a slope while sitting on the bike, you may find it much more difficult than just walking your motorcycle. So, if you want to be an expert in the mechanics of moving your bike and don’t want to have any problems moving it around every day, then you need to learn some tricks.

So, if you are looking to learn some techniques, then here they are.

Top Tips for Walking Your Motorcycle

Vision

Suppose, you are alone on a long country road and no one is available to help you when your bike is out of fuel. This is the time to start walking your motorcycle instead of waiting for some help to arrive.

To walk your motorcycle, first, you need to clear your vision and have a strong grip on the handlebar.

You must be wondering, how I am supposed to do that?

Well, you can just simply remove your helmet and gloves, which can hinder your vision and grip, respectively.

Balance Point

Balancing is the key thing in walking your motorcycle. Proper balancing can significantly reduce the pressure of pushing your bike. So, don’t force all the weight to your hands. Standing beside the bike will help you to reach the balancing point.

If it is too heavy then you can use your hip to transfer some weight. You can do that by pushing the hip into the seat or the fuel tank.

Remember, it depends on your height, so figure it out accordingly.

Path

Walking a motorcycle is quite easy when you move your bike in a straight path and don’t turn the handles unnecessarily unless you have to. But, if you are moving backward, then just use the left hand on the left handlebar and right hand on the pillion handle.

In this way, you can move a motorcycle better than by putting both hands on the handlebars.

Brakes

Try to avoid using the brakes while walking your motorcycle. Sudden stops will unbalance your motorcycle and your effort and rhythm will be a waste if you apply the brakes every few minutes.

So, just take it slow and easy. It’s not as you are late for something. Even if you are rushing, it won’t get you there any faster, it will only cause you to lose your balance.

Side Stand

Don’t use the side stand to turn your bike around. Using the side stand while turning could damage the surface or bend the stand. Plus, walking the motorcycle with the side stand down can increase the chances of getting caught on a bump.

I hope you like our tips and remember to implement them the next time you are walking your motorcycle. If you have any questions, please don’t forget to write them in the comment section below.
